PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent device high in efficiency, low in operating voltage, and also high in its thin film structure's stability, thus giving stable and high light-emitting properties over a long period, and to provide a silole compound suitable for the organic electroluminescent device. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent device is such as to be provided with layer(s) comprising the silole compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R1to R3are each independently an aliphatic hydrocarbon group or the like; a-d are each independently a carbon atom or nitrogen atom; and Ar is an n-valent aromatic hydrocarbon ring residue or aromatic heterocyclic residue).
