PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an evaluation value accurately matched with determination of conditions of a sample daily observed by researchers or the like to be obtained from an image of the sample. SOLUTION: In a method for evaluating conditions of a sample in which an evaluation value matched with conditions of the sample is obtained based on an image, in which linear patterns change in accordance with its condition, of the sample, the image of the sample is converted into a line image in which its linear patterns becomes lines (S2); closed areas enclosed by lines in the line image is detected (S3); at least one chosen from the total number, total circumference, statistics of the dimensions and statistics of circumferences of the detected closed areas is calculated as an evaluation element value (S4); the evaluation element value or a value proportional thereto is let be the evaluation value matched with conditions of the sample (S5).
