PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial polyester fiber which does not cause an environmental problem, does not deteriorate the antimicrobial performance, even when dyed or repeatedly washed, exhibits the excellent antimicrobial performance, is excellent in abrasion resistance, and is not discolored with time, and to provide a method for stably producing the fiber. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber containing an inorganic antimicrobial agent carrying an antibacterial metal component which is at least partially silver component, is characterized in that a silver component content and a zinc content in the polyester fiber are 30-200 ppm and≤10 ppm, respectively, and a coefficient of fiber-fiber dynamic friction is 0.20-0.35.
