<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately, simply, and inexpensively detect a bending amount regardless of an environment factor such as a temperature, and to eliminate erroneous carrying timing by suitably bending a sheet and eliminating the oblique traveling of the sheet S. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming device or the automatic document feeding device 2 comprises a rotating element carrying the sheet S; a pair of register rollers provided at a downstream side in a sheet carrying direction to the rotating element on which the sheet S is abutted, and feeding the sheet S to adjust timing after bending the abutted sheet S; and an inclination detecting element abutted on the pair of register rollers to detect the inclination of the bent sheet S. The inclination detecting element has a light emitting portion 82 radiating light toward the sheet S, and first and second light receiving portions 84 outputting signals according to a light receiving amount and provided so as to sandwich the light emitting portion 82.
