PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of reducing the effect that disturbance light affects a document size detection result. SOLUTION: In a state where a document is not placed, an angle D of a document mat is compared with image data (step S3), so that a serviceman can be notified about an angle on which the considerable effect of disturbance light is exerted (step S4). Based on input contents of the serviceman based on a result of the comparison, an angle to perform document size detection thereat is set so as not to perform the document size detection at the angle on which the considerable effect of the disturbance light is exerted (step S5).
