摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map creation device and method for determining the traveling path of an autonomous traveling object for inexpensively and simply creating a map for determining a traveling path suitable for high speed autonomous traveling. SOLUTION: This map creation device includes: an external field measurement part 10 having laser range finders 11 and 12 and a stereo-camera 13; a self-location measurement part 20; a data analyzing part 30; and a map creation part 40 having a map creation module 42 for creating a base map based on various data and a traveling path determination module 43 for determining a traveling path, wherein the map creation module 42 creates a base map by reflecting the level difference region extraction data of the laser range finders 11 and 12 and plane region extraction data configured of the images of the stereo-camera 13 at a non-measurement point, and holding the past level difference region extraction data of the laser range finders 11 and 12, and successively updating the newly measured data at the same spot on the base map, and always updating the image processing data of the stereo-camera 13 to the latest image processing data.
