<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of detecting the arrival of articles and products conveyed on a transfer path, at the vicinity of antenna without using an optical sensor or the like, and a reader/writer suitable for the system. <P>SOLUTION: A gate system comprises the reader/writer 100 and antennas 201, 202 connected to the reader/writer 100. The antennas 201, 202 are opposedly mounted to a gate 400 disposed to straddle a belt conveyor 300. The reader/writer 100 uses the antenna 201 for the output of radio wave while receiving radio wave output from the antenna 201 and monitoring the electric power level of radio wave which is output from the antenna 201 and reaches the antenna 202.
