PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To immediately display on a display a composite image for display when generating the composite image for display, and to generate a composite image in a great image size as a composite image for printing or storage when generating the composite image for printing or storage. SOLUTION: In an image processing apparatus, when generating a composite image for display, uncompressed image data of a mount image and a photographic image with 1920×1080 pixels at a maximum are transferred from an image size processor 35 to an image synthesis processor 21 via HD video interfaces 39 and 29. In the image synthesis processor 21, the photographic image is pasted on the mount image to generate a composite image. When generating a composite image for printing or storage, uncompressed image data of a mount image and a photographic image in a much greater image size are transferred from the image size processor 35 to the image synthesis processor 21 via general-use interfaces 37 and 27.
