<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect an energy amount of a pulse laser beam in an information recording/reproducing apparatus for recording the information on a recording medium by using sub-nanosecond pulse laser light containing relaxation oscillation as a recording pulse for recording the information. <P>SOLUTION: A laser drive circuit includes: a photodetector (95) for receiving a part of a laser beam emitted from a laser element toward the recording medium independently of a reflection laser beam reflected by the recording medium and outputting an output corresponding to the strength; an integration circuit (7511) for integrating the output from the photodetector for a predetermined period; and a setting circuit (7509) for setting an amount of a laser drive current supplied to the laser element on the basis of the output from the integration circuit.
