<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a retardation film easily and with high mass-productivity. <P>SOLUTION: A film 2 is extended from a retention reel 1 and conveyed in a direction shown as an arrow. First, a photosensitive layer containing a photosensitive compound that can develop liquid crystal property is formed on one principal face of the film in a coating unit 3. Then, after a solvent is removed in a drying unit 4, the film 2 is sent to a heating unit 5 provided with a far-IR heater to heat the photosensitive layer to a temperature equal to or higher than the isotropic phase transition temperature of the photosensitive compound. Subsequently, a gas is obliquely blown from the heating unit 5 side to the film 2 exiting from the heating unit 5 so as to rapidly cool the photosensitive layer to a temperature equal to or lower than the glass phase-liquid crystal phase transition temperature of the photosensitive composition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
