PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel bearing device capable of keeping bearing performance for a long period of time by improving a sealing performance of seal. SOLUTION: The wheel bearing device, equipped with a seal 8 installed in an opening of annular space formed between an outer member 3 and an inner ring 5, is characterized in that a backup seal 13 is arranged in an outer side of outer side seal 8, in that this backup seal 13 extends in inclination in radially outer direction, in that a side-lip 15b formed in a flare enlarged in tip is integrally included, in that this side-lip 15b is slidablly contacted with an annular projecting surface 16 formed in a side surface 6c of inner side of wheel attaching flange 6, in that this projecting surface 16 is processed in hardening to 50-64 HRC of surface hardness by induction hardening, and in that surface roughness is regulated at 0.8 Ra or less by a grinding process of plunge cut.
