PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve plate device capable of maintaining smooth and prompt operation of a suction valve and discharge valve for a long period and of eliminating the risk of increase in electric power consumption, vibration and noise. SOLUTION: The valve plate device interposed between a cylinder head having a suction chamber and a discharge chamber and a cylinder block having a cylinder bore includes: a valve plate having a suction hole for communicating the suction chamber with the cylinder bore and a discharge hole for communicating the cylinder bore with the discharge chamber; the suction valve placed on the surface of the valve plate facing the cylinder block and opening/closing the suction hole; and the discharge valve placed on the surface of the valve plate facing the cylinder head and opening/closing the discharge hole. On at least either one of a valve seat part of the valve plate with which the suction valve comes into contact or a valve seat part with which the discharge valve comes into contact, ribs extended inwardly from the valve seat part and covered with the suction valve or the discharge valve are provided.
