PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert which generates less swinging of a tool body, even when it is installed on a cutting tool such as an insert detachable end mill and rotated at a high speed while ensuring a strength of an insert body itself and an installing strength to an insert installing platform, and improves a processing efficiency without reducing the processing accuracy. SOLUTION: The cutting insert is provided with a tabular insert body 11 on which a cutting blade 16 is formed at its end edge, and an installing hole 17 penetrates in the width direction, and is installed by being inserted into a slit-shape insert installing platform of an insert detachable cutting tool and by being sandwiched by installing platform walls surrounding the installing hole 17. A penetrating section 18 that penetrates the insert body 11 in the width direction is formed on the insert body 11 at a distance from the installing hole 17 inside a sandwiched surface 13A that is sandwiched by the installing platform walls surrounding the installing hole 17.
