<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a space physically separated from an image forming section is defined in the apparatus, and even if a component that thermally or electrically affects image formation is disposed in the space, image forming performance is not affected. <P>SOLUTION: The structure of the image forming apparatus has a base 11, a front side plate 12, and a rear side plate 13, and unit replacement and so on are carried out by a user through a hole 30 or the like made in the front side plate 12. A stay 15 divides the space between the side plates 12 and 13 into a right half space serving as an image forming section X and a left half space (left space section Y) separated from the image forming section. A notch 15a in the stay 15 serves as a path for a harness 22 from a substrate 21.
