PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing rod whose length can be adjusted and in which the outer peripheral surface of a butt upper rod is less likely to be scratched, even if extension/contraction operations are repeated between the butt's upper rod and the butt rod. SOLUTION: This fishing rod, having the butt rod 1 and the butt upper rod 2 to be received in the butt rod 1 in a shaking out style, is such that a jointing region 2a for adjusting the length is formed on the outer surface of the butt upper rod 2; a holding portion 10 that is jointed to the jointing region 2a, when the butt upper rod 2 is jointed to the butt rod 1, and is softer than the surface hardness of the jointing region 2a of the butt upper rod 2 is disposed on the tip-end inside of the butt rod; the butt upper rod 2 is jointed to the butt rod 1 at the side closer to the base end side than to the holding portion 10, when the butt upper rod 2 is extended from the butt rod 1; and the outer peripheral surface of the butt upper rod 2 is kept, in a state which does not come into contact with the holding portion 10.
