PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet separation apparatus capable of performing stable separation operations by surely feeding air into laminated paper sheets brought into partially close contact with each other, thus separating the paper sheets. SOLUTION: This paper sheet separation apparatus includes: blowers 11a, 11b for blowing air to the laminated portion side face 12 of the laminated paper sheets 10 so that the laminated paper sheets 10 are floated in the laminated direction to form an air layer 10c between the laminated paper sheets 10; and a laminated paper sheet pressing means 50 by which a pressing force having at least a component in a downward direction relative to the top face of the laminated paper sheets 10 and a component in a direction along the top face work on the laminated paper sheets 10 floated by blowing air by the blowers 11a, 11b. The laminated paper sheet pressing means 50, including such operations as to press the laminated paper sheets from above may press the paper sheet 10a on the top face of the laminated paper sheets 10 and swing the sheets in the horizontal direction.
