PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner capable of suppressing reduction in image density and generation of development streaks, when a toner-carrying member having a small diameter is used. SOLUTION: The toner contains at least binder resin, a magnetic material and wax, and is such that the mode circularity of the toner is not less than 0.975, with respect to the entire peak area measured by ESCA (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) of the toner, the peak area of carbon atoms ranges of 88.0 to 95.0%, the peak area of oxygen atoms ranges of 5.0 to 12.0%; in a micro-compression test to the toner by selecting 100 particles of the toner, the difference between the maximum and minimum of the maximum displacement is not more than 1.5μm, under the conditions of applying a load of 9.8×10<SP>-4</SP>N, at a load speed of 9.8×10<SP>-5</SP>N/sec.
