The device has a transmission rope (5) stretched around a plant organ and transmitting mechanical changes of the plant organ to a distance sensor (1). The transmission rope forms a smallest convex polygon around the plant organ, where the sensor is arranged between the plant organ and the transmission rope. A compression spring (3) is arranged between the plant organ and the sensor in a radial direction. The sensor measures the distance between the plant organ and the transmission rope. The transmission rope is a metal rope, and possesses less heat expansion coefficient.
