A computer system runs virtual machines in guest program environments using a virtual machine monitor in response to requests from thin client terminals. If a maintenance operation needs to be carried out on the guest environment, a copy of the environment is made and a virtual machine is activated in the copy of the environment. When the maintenance operation is complete, the original environment is replaced by the copy. The replacement of the environment may be prevented if a virtual machine is activated using the original environment or if the original environment has been changed. |
