A method is provided of using the mechanical support column 130 of an optic 100 intended to provide light from a primary light source to the output surface for the additional purpose of guiding light from a secondary light source 180 to the light output surface 105. The method comprises of placing a secondary light source 180 behind the disc 140 containing the primary light source on which the optic is located such that the light from the secondary light source 180 is guided to the optic light output surface 105 through the support column 130. The light can be of a specific colour to indicate a system status, for example the battery level in a portable lighting solution. |
