<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus which is advantageous for securing the quality of image to be picked up by preventing dust and dirt in a case body from being stuck to lens back edge surface and a cover glass composing an imaging device. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging device 16 comprises a package 1602 having a housing recessed part 1604; an image pickup sensor part 1608 which is mounted inside the housing recessed part 1604 so that an image pickup surface 1606 is opposite to an opening of the housing recessed part 1604; and a transparent lid plate 1610 for closing the opening to seal the housing recessed part 1604 tight. The lid plate 1610 is placed opposite to a back part of a lens barrel part 24. A closing part 34 which is extended between the surroundings of the back part of the lens barrel part 34 and surroundings of the lid plate 1610 and closes surroundings of an optical path part K1 of a photography optical system leading from the back part of the lens barrel part 24 to the lid plate 1610 is included.
