<p>#CMT# #/CMT# Use of ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-36C-carboxylic acid or 4-36C-dicarboxylic acid in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparation, is claimed. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are included for: (1) an ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 9-16C-carboxylic acid; (2) the preparation of ester comprising reacting a mixture containing 2-ethyl butanol and at least an optionally saturated 9-16C-carboxylic acid or 4-36C-dicarboxylic acid; and (3) a cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical composition comprising at least an ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-36C-carboxylic acid or 4-36C-dicarboxylic acid, preferably at least an ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-18C-carboxylic acid or 4-18C-dicarboxylic acid and at least an emulsifier, surfactant, wax component, polymer and/or other oil bodies. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The ester is useful in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparation (claimed). The preparation is useful for cleaning and care of the human skin and hair. The preparation is useful for wetting, impregnating or coating usable- or hygienic-cloths that are useful for body cleaning and personal hygiene. The preparation is useful: as base in cosmetic products, e.g. baby oil, cream and lotion; in surfactant-containing formulation, e.g. hair shampoo and hair conditioner; as care component on e.g. tissue, paper and sponge; in the area of hygiene and care, e.g. damp cloth for baby hygiene and baby care, skin care cloth and diaper; and for hair coloring. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The preparation exhibits high dermatological compatibility, good moisturizing properties, elegant appearance, optimal sensory effect, storage stability and soft skin feeling. The ester exhibits improved sensory properties. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Process: The preparation further comprises reacting a mixture containing 2-ethyl butanol and the methyl ester of at least an optionally saturated 9-16C-carboxylic acid under adding transesterification catalyst. Preferred Components: The ester is of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-18C-carboxylic acid or 4-18C-dicarboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid is 6-16C-, preferably 6-12C-carboxylic acid or the corresponding dicarboxylic acid; and unbranched carboxylic acid. The dicarboxylic acid is unbranched dicarboxylic acid. The ester is 2-ethylbutyl-n-nonanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-nonanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-decanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-decanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-undecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-undecanoic ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-undecenoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-dodecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-dodecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-tridecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-tridecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-tetradecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-tetradecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-pentadecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-iso-pentadecanoic acid ester, 2-ethylbutyl-n-hexadecanoic acid ester or 2-ethylbutyl-iso-hexadecanoic acid ester. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Typical oil-in-water emulsion comprised of: Emulgade PL 68/50 (RTM: Cetearyl glucoside and cetearyl alcohol) (4.5); 2-ethylbutyl caprylate (14); 99.5 % glycerin (3); 37% formalin solution (0.15); and distilled water (added to make up to 100).</p> |
