A moveable barrier operator 100 includes a motor for moving a moveable barrier and a housing 101 is disposed around the motor. The moveable barrier operator also includes a plurality of light sources 110, 114 and the plurality of light source are either coupled to the housing along a periphery of the housing or mounted within the housing and are individually directable so as to illuminate at least one predetermined area 122 outside the housing. The at least one predetermined area is proximal to a moveable barrier operator. A controller is disposed in the housing and coupled to the motor. The controller is arranged and configured to automatically selectively actuate the motor to move the moveable barrier according to received user instructions. The controller may selectively control illumination of individual lamps in response to wireless user input. The controller may automatically adjust the direction of illumination of the multiple light sources. The light sources are preferably adjustable in at least two axes.
