To obtain relatively sharp corners adjacent the windshield pillar in a vehicle with a wraparound windshield without undue stress concentrations the pillar 19 at its upper end penetrates the roof rail 44 and has its outer section 27 provided with a flange 51 welded to the outer roof rail section 52 and its inner section 26 provided with an extension flange 57 welded between the flanges 53 and 56 of the inner and outer roof rail sections. At the lower end the pillar sections, Fig. 2, are curved forwardly and are secured to the forward door pillar 66 by welding together flanges 63 and 72 and flange 62 to the rearward wall 74 of the door pillar. The inner side of the door pillar 66 is completed by a side cowl panel 76 having a flange 77 for attachment to the flange 72 and being secured to flanges 79, 81 formed on the forward face 67 of the door pillar. The joint between the windshield and door pillars is concealed by cowl panel 16 and by the reinforcement panel 97.</p> |
