The present invention relates to a rear view mirror of the external or internal type is formed substantially by a mirror which provides the rear view and an adhesive means applied to the rear face of the mirror. Preferably, a base plate, is cemente d to the mirror by the adhesive means, the mirror and the base plate being part of a manuall y or electrically driven moving mechanism of the rear view mirror. The adhesive means may also constitute a shatterproofing device for the mirror. The rear view mirro r also includes a housing and a base extending from the housing to a vehicle body. The adhesive means cements the mirror to the base plate or forms a shatterproofing device for t he mirror. Preferably, the adhesive is of the hot-melt type applied by a continuous application method formed, preferably, by applying cylinders.
