The invention discloses an image display apparatus and the method for controlling the image display apparatus. The image display apparatus is characterized in that: it comprises: a tuner for receiving broadcast signal; a demodulation unit for demodulating the selected channel by the tuner; a demultiplexing unit for demultiplexing the demodulated signal; a display unit for displaying the extracted data in the demultiplexed data; an OSD unit for displaying user interface by the display unit; a controlling unit for controlling the operation of the OSD unit; a HDD having a head, a main shaft motor and a buffer memory for saving the image data; and a PVR controller for controlling the operation of the HDD and enabling the data to be stored in the HDD. The HDD in the invention can carry out driving selectively, consequently, can reduce electric power consumption and prolong the HDD service life. |
