<p>Beneath the tread surface (2) is a multilayer sound-deadening layer. This preferably comprises two flat sheets (2, 2') of dry-cast panel or dry-board material e.g. gypsum fiber panels or plasterboard. Their total thickness (d2) is preferably 30 mm. A first thermal insulation layer follows. This is based on glass, ceramic or mineral wool. Its preferred thickness is d2. Below it, a sheet of flexible- or elastomeric material (4) is situated. This is e.g. bitumen-based and has a lesser thickness (d4) of 2-5 mm. Below the elastomeric material, support is provided by a first wood-based, load-bearing layer (5). This comprises a 5-7 ply cross-laminated construction (i.e. plywood). Its thickness is about 5 times d2. A void (6) of depth up to 2 x d2 follows. Additional layers of plasterboard, mineral wool and wood structure are detailed. A plasterboard ceiling layer (7) is supported underneath, on foam strips.
