The collision protection system has a sensor unit (10) acting as collision monitoring unit, a control and/or evaluation unit (12) and collision protection unit. The sensor signals supplied by the sensor unit are conveyed to the control and/or evaluation unit, and the collision protection unit is releasable over the control and/or evaluation unit depending on the sensor signals. The control and/or evaluation unit has a discrimination logic (18) for differentiation between an imminent collisions requiring activation of collision protection units and other imminent collisions.
