PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a greening building material capable of widely promoting greening regardless of places, and free from changing color to yellow even if having no moisture content, and to provide a method for producing the greening building material. SOLUTION: This greening building material has a building material body 2, an adhesive layer 4 which is formed on the surface of the building material body 2 and made from water soluble inorganic paint, and a greening layer 6 which is formed on the surface of the building material body 2 by transplanting moss plant fragments 5 of the adhesive layer 4. The moss plant fragments 5 are dyed with water soluble paint or ink of an arbitrary color, or dyestuff. The method for producing the greening building material comprises applying water soluble inorganic paint to the surface of the building material body 2 to form the adhesive layer 4, transplanting the moss plant fragments 5 on the adhesive layer 4 so as to form a greening layer on the surface of the building material body 2, and applying water soluble paint or ink of an arbitrary color, or dyestuff to the moss plant fragments 5 so as to dye the moss plant fragments 5.
