The armature (10) has windings that are inserted in a slot (14) of an armature core (12), and form coil ends (30) at front sides. The armature core and slot closures form a core body (40). A protection device (50) is provided for the coil ends, and covers the coil ends, in an area-by-area manner. The protection device is fixed to a front-sided area of the core body. The protection device has a band that is suspended from or mounted to the slot closures with hooks. The slot closures axially project from the armature core.
