The terminal (10) has a card insertion unit (20) e.g. card plug-in unit, that is movably mounted on a housing (12) between two preset reading positions of the card insertion unit. The card insertion unit has a card insertion opening (22) that receives a transaction authentication card e.g. smartcard, at the reading positions. Two reading units (14, 16) are immovably mounted in the housing and read-out information provided in the card. The reading units are arranged relative to the card insertion unit, so that the inserted card is read by one of the reading units in each reading position.
