<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a recording pulse length in an information recording/reproducing apparatus which records information in a recording medium sub-nanosecond class pulse laser light which is generated along with relaxation oscillation, as recording pulses for recording information, and in an optical head device for use in the information recording/reproducing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: This invention includes a laser drive circuit (105) which supplies a drive current to a laser element for outputting light having a predetermined wavelength, and a laser control circuit (104, 105) which supplies a predetermined timing pulse for generating relaxation oscillation in a laser drive current supplied to the laser drive circuit. The laser control circuit supplies a laser drive current higher than a threshold value from the laser drive circuit to the laser element to enable the laser element to output laser light.
