<p>A method of sheathing a first fluid by one or more fluids with which the first fluid is immiscible is provided, the method comprising: (i) providing a first fluid(6); (ii) providing second(3)and third(9) fluids with which the first fluid is immiscible; (iii) forming parallel laminar flows of the first (6) and second (3) fluids with the second fluid contacting the first fluid on a first side of the first fluid; (iv) subsequent to step (iii), contacting the third (9) fluid with the second fluid and the first fluid so that the first fluid is sheathed by the second and third fluids. Devices for performing the above-mentioned methods are also provided.</p>
