<p>Provided is a method for manufacturing a vertical magnetic recording medium wherein a grain diameter of a vertical magnetic recording layer is fine, vertical alignment of the vertical magnetic recording layer and corrosion resistance of the magnetic recording medium are improved and high density information recording/reproduction is made possible. The method is provided for manufacturing a vertical magnetic recording medium (10) which has, on a nonmagnetic substrate (1), at least a lining layer (2), a base film (4), an intermediate layer (5), and a vertical magnetic recording layer (6) having a granular magnetic layer containing at least an oxide. The method includes at least one of the following steps; a step of irradiating the surface of the lining layer with inert gas ions after forming the lining layer, a step of irradiating the surface of the intermediate layer with inert gas ions after the intermediate layer is formed, and a step of irradiating the surface of the granular magnetic layer with inert gas ions after forming the granular magnetic layer which constitutes the vertical magnetic recording layer.</p> |
