<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device for reproducing a signal recorded in an optical disk based on a different standard. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup device includes: a photodetector 14 disposed in a position irradiated with a return light reflected from the signal recording layer of a first optical disk and a return light reflected from the signal recording layer of a second optical disk via first and second optical systems A and B; and a monitor photodetector 7 irradiated with a monitor laser beam obtained from the first optical system A to generate a signal as a monitor output according to the output of a laser diode.
