PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract a pattern based on the color of ink instead of the color observed. SOLUTION: An index used for plotting a color distribution approximation curve, unique point coordinates and an isolation value are stored in association with each other for each ink to be extracted, background color coordinates are determined, the index and unique point coordinates corresponding to the designated ink are read out, the color distribution approximation curve plotted by the index based on the unique point coordinates and the background color coordinates are determined, the isolation value corresponding to the designated ink is read out, the isolation point corresponding to the isolation value on the color distribution approximation curve is determined, an intersection between the color distribution approximation curve and a perpendicular drawn from every pixel of an image developed in a color space is determined for every pixel, and then pixels which are present in the direction of the unique point coordinates when viewed from the isolation point and have distances on the color space with the intersection within a predetermined threshold are extracted as pixels associated with a pattern based on the ink to be extracted.
