PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new additive for laser marking achieving more superior fineness and visibility, particularly capable of imparting good marking characteristic to a resin molded article having an insufficient thickness to which the sufficient marking quality cannot be imparted by a conventional additive. SOLUTION: The additive for the laser marking is constituted by using a complex hydroxide containing Cu and Mo as essential components as a base, and has≥2 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET specific surface area. The complex hydroxide preferably contains a Lindgrenite structure represented by general formula: Cu<SB>x</SB>(MoO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>y</SB>(OH)<SB>z</SB>(wherein, x, y and z satisfy the relations 1<x/y<3 and 1<x/z<3). The atomic ratio of Cu to Mo is preferably 1<Cu/Mo<3. Especially preferable complex hydroxide contains the Lindgrenite structure represented by Cu<SB>3</SB>(MoO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>2</SB>(OH)<SB>2</SB>.
