The invention relates to a method for obtaining hydrogen from hydrocarbons and/or alcohols using catalysts formed by cobalt nanoparticles obtained by peritectoid decomposition of perovskites containing cobalt (cobaltites). Said catalysts are prepared using a traditional method, followed by a subsequent heat treatment carried out in a reducing atmosphere or in the presence of hydrocarbons and/or alcohols. The resulting hydrogen can be used to power fuel cells of the ceramic or polymeric membrane type.
