<p>The invention relates to apparatus which allows the validity of a banknote or bill, token, ticket or voucher to be assessed and, if accepted, moved for storage and subsequent retrieval. The apparatus includes at least one sensing apparatus comprising a light emitter and a light receiver. At least one of the sensors can be located on the opposing side of a wall of the apparatus from the bill, with at least a portion of said wall formed of a material which allows the light path to pass therethrough. This allows at least one, but typically both, of the sensors to be located outside the housing in which the checking of the validity of the bill occurs and prevents the need for an aperture to be formed in the housing to allow the light path to pass into or out of the housing.</p> |
