PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus or an image reading unit capable of correcting image shift in a main scanning direction and a sub scanning direction caused by external vibration with a simplified constitution and outputting high-quality image data in an image reading apparatus capable of high resolution reading. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes at least two or more of reading means by which timing of reading the same position of image documents at different timings; and image shift detection means for detecting whether or not there occurs any shift in read images. When any image shift is detected in image data read by one image reading means by the image shift detection means, image data in the image shift region is replaced for correction with image data without image shift read by the other image reading means.
