A thrust bearing for a shaft 3 comprises a member 2, secured to the shaft, engaging a ring of balls 7 located in cylindrical recesses 6 in a stationary member 1. Each ball 7 is supported on a ring of balls 8 located at the bottom of the respective recess 6, and the axis of each recess is inclined to the shaft axis and coplanar therewith.
