A charging efficiency enhancing control to enhance the charging efficiency by using the scavenging effect can be made in a small-turbo operating state. The slope of the rise of the charging pressure of the large-turbo supercharger (18) can be predicted before the small-turbo operating state is changed to the large-turbo operating state. If the slope of the rise of the charging pressure of the large-turbo supercharger (18) is predicted to be gentle, the degree of enhancement of the charging efficiency by the charging efficiency enhancement control is lowered.
