<p>An arc welding simulator, comprising a simulated welding rod, the rod having a first magnet at or towards one end, a simulated work-piece comprising a non-magnetic representation of an object to be welded, and one or more second magnets located at or along a point, or track, of intended weld simulation, a sensor to detect the proximity of the end of the simulated welding rod to a surface of the simulated work-piece and a controller in communication with the sensor and the or each electromagnet, and which receives information from the sensor about the proximity of the simulated welding rod to the simulated work piece, and adjusts the field strength and/or polarity of the electromagnet in accordance with a predefined relationship between said proximity and said magnetic characteristics of field strength and/or polarity, thereby giving tactile feedback to a user.</p> |
