PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce break-in abrasion of a prosthetic device.
SOLUTION: This invention is related to an object having a surface oxide layer with the thickness of ≤20 nm containing chromium and cobalt oxide and having the atomic ratio of Cr/Co of >3. The method for processing a chromium-containing material includes: contacting the material with gas plasma; and contacting the material with acid under an effective condition for oxidizing at least part of the material. The processed surface has corrosion resistance, can reduce abrasion when being used for an orthopedic implant and in particular, an abrasive surface of the orthopedic implant and can be used for other corrosive environment.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
