PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it unnecessary to correct mirror image inversion, and to make it difficult to make a mistake in the direction of an original. SOLUTION: In a fixed original mode, an original image is read while an image reading part 30 is moved from the left to the right with respect to an original housed in an original housing part 59. In a mobile original mode, the original image is read while the original is moved from the right to the left with respect to the image reading part 30. In the fixed original mode and the mobile original mode, the directions of the reading of the original image are made the same so that it is not necessary to correct the mirror image inversion. Also, the original is placed on an original stand 60 while the original image is turned upward so that it is possible to place the original on the original stand 60 while the original image is actually viewed, and that it is difficult to make a mistake in the direction of the original.
