<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lever device having a reduced size. <P>SOLUTION: The shift lever device 10 selects a shift position with the shift operation and the select operation of a shift lever 14 which is rockingly supported by a base 12. It includes a first guide mechanism 91 provided on the side of the base 12 beyond a spherical center 44C of the shift lever 14, on the rear side in a shift operating direction, and a second guide mechanism 92 provided on the front side in the shift operating direction. The first guide mechanism 91 uses a first guide groove 27 and a first plunger 65 for restricting the operating direction of the shift lever 14 depending on a predetermined shift pattern.
