PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short-arc type extra high-pressure mercury lamp capable of generating always stable arc discharge by suppressing shape distortion of an electrode. SOLUTION: In the short-arc type extra high-pressure mercury lamp with rare gas and halogen enclosed, of at least one of a pair of electrodes, an end of a root side of a coil wound around an axis part is welded to an electrode axis by laser irradiation.
