PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the use efficiency of a plurality of temporary disk/defect management areas (TDMAs) provided on a disk. SOLUTION: The recording medium includes one or more temporary management areas being used in a designated order for storing therein temporary management information until the recording medium is closed and a final management area for storing therein final management information when the recording medium is to be closed. The method for recording the management information on the recording medium includes recording data in a first indicator located at the head of a first TDMA to be used first among one or more TDMAs to indicate that the disk is closed. The method for reproducing the management information from the recording medium includes accessing the first indicator located at the head of the first TDMA to be used first among the one or more TDMAs, and determining whether the disk is closed or not on the basis of whether the first indicator records the data.
