<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a currency detection method that detects seals on currency in order to prevent printing and defeat counterfeiting. <P>SOLUTION: A detector is trained offline with identification marks resulting in templates which are generated and recorded for every identification, receives sample images having suspect marks, identifies the location and orientation of the suspect marks, rotates and shifts the templates for aligning the orientation of the templates with the suspect marks, and compares the templates with the suspect marks to determine whether there is a match. A microprocessor is programmed to become familiar with a plurality of identification marks through learning, and to analyze and detect seals within documents to be tested.
