PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor useful for therapy of hypertension, chronic heart failure and progressive chronic renal failure. SOLUTION: The method is useful for mass production of 3-[(1'-(alkoxycarbonyl)-3'-phenylpropyl)amino]-2-oxo-[1]-benzazepine and derivatives thereof, and especially, represents a specific method for converting an intermediate compound of benazepril synthesis from one diastereomer form R, S to another diastereomer form S, S of a required form for benazepril production by using an epimerization method and kinetic resolution of a class of chemical compounds.
